About the MD50 Colorimeter Series
Hand-held single-parameter colorimeters for field water testing. Advanced optics bring measurement time under three seconds, and the IP67 chemical-resistant casing with rubberised side panels is built for daily field use.
Stores the last 100 readings with timestamps and runs roughly 5,000 tests per battery set. Data moves off the instrument via USB-C or wirelessly through the AquaLX® mobile app (iOS/Android); Lovibond® Data Expert software (Windows) handles method customisation and firmware updates.
Available across 18+ parameter models: chlorine (multiple ranges), chlorine dioxide, ozone, phosphate, copper, manganese, molybdenum, COD, urea, suspended solids, Hazen colour, and monochloramine/free ammonia combinations. Compatible with tablet, liquid and powder reagent formats.

MD50 Colorimeter Series: common questions
Does the Lovibond MD50 measure COD, and what other parameters does it cover?
Yes. The MD50 series is available across 18+ single-parameter models, including chlorine (multiple ranges), chlorine dioxide, ozone, phosphate, copper, manganese, molybdenum, COD, urea, suspended solids, Hazen colour and monochloramine/free ammonia combinations. For COD specifically, the MD50 runs with the COD Set-Up MD50 (Lovibond part 280240), a sealed-tube test system read photometrically after heating in a reactor.
What is the COD measurement range on the Lovibond MD50?
With the COD Set-Up MD50 (part 280240), Lovibond publishes five COD ranges: HR 0.2 to 15 g/L O2, MR 20 to 1,500 mg/L O2, LR 3 to 150 mg/L O2, LMR 15 to 300 mg/L O2, and VLR 2.0 to 60.0 mg/L O2. The LR, MR, HR and LMR ranges are documented under Lovibond methods M130, M131, M132 and M133 respectively; see the COD Set-Ups product page for the method manuals. We do not have a published method number for the VLR range in the data we hold -- ask us and we will confirm from Lovibond's documentation.
